Save Your Skin - Secrets to Self Tanning

Ladies and Gentlemen....

The weather is finally turning, trees and flowers in bloom, the sun is finally making it's way out into or world and onto our faces.
As the layers peel off and our precious skin is exposed now is the time to REALLY start applying sunblock.

I know we all want that sun kissed glow either before or after we go on spring break.  Believe me here is the easiest and safest way to get an instant glow without damaging your skin.

Self tanner and the combination of a bronzer is the way to go!

Don't be cheap when buying self tanner because the more expensive the longer it will last, more natural it will look and less it will streak.  I recommend anything from Sephora or department stores and NOT your local drug store.

Pick a night when you have time to relax and don't ever self tan right before you go out!  You will end up publicly smelling like hash browns and ruin your clothes.  All self tanner stinks no matter what the bottle says so I give it a night to sink into my skin before I go anywhere.  I usually apply self tanner on a Thursday night when I am alone so I may dedicate that evening to basic tweezing and other self maintenance.

Jump in the shower, grab a wash cloth and ex foliate twice from head to toe.  You want to remove ALL the dead skin before the self tanner goes on to avoid streaking.  Once out of the shower towel dry completely and give your skin about 15 minutes to air dry also eliminating any moisture from your skin.

Start with your face and work your way down to your toes carefully applying a thin layer all over your body.  Be careful of your elbows, knees, ankles, hairline and wrists.  Don't apply too much just the smallest amount.

Once finished I take the washcloth and carefully scrub the palms of my hands and in between the fingers.  If you forget to do this you will have clown hands for days so please be careful!  If you accidentally streak anywhere some lemon juice should do the trick so keep it handy.

Now I recommend wandering around in your birthday suit for at least 30 mins to let the self tanner dry properly.  Make a cup of tea and throw on an episode of Entourage or Sex and the City.

Wear black to bed or dark clothing because it will rub off a little on whatever your wearing.

Wake up and take a nice shower to clean off that "hash brown" smell the self tanner leaves on you.  Don't worry you wont shower off the tanner.

If you want a darker look you can apply a bronzer.  They sell a great one at Victoria's Secret.  the difference between a bronzer and a self tanner is a Bronzer isn't permanent and adds a little shimmer.

If you incorporate this routine into your summer every Thursday night you will be healthier and instantly tan.  No brainer!

Plus I find self tanner is almost like a foundation on your face semi-permanently and you barely need any makeup.

But please remember to always wear sunblock in the sun.  Self tanning doesn't block against the suns harmful rays.
